In episode 7 of our Truth about Women podcast, Chris Adams and Simone Monroe join Leighann to discuss two significant women in the earthly life of Jesus; his mother, Mary and his devoted follower, Mary Magdalene. What makes this episode rich is the century of combined women’s ministry experience that these women bring to the conversation.

Just a bit about these two Mary’s: Throughout our Truth about Women series we’ve talked about God’s design for women. We’ve recognized that what God has in mind and what the world thinks God has in mind are very different. If we allow the Bible to be our authority on the “truth about women” we discover that God promoted women, valued women and gave women a voice throughout their journey in biblical times. In fact, He used women in significant ways both at the beginning and at the end of Jesus’ earthly ministry. These two Mary’s…Mary, the mother of Jesus and Mary Magdalene who had the honor of sharing the news of Jesus’ resurrection are proof that God views women as image bearers of Himself, and full partners in the advancement of His Kingdom work.

Meet Chris Adams: Chris is an author, speaker, blogger, and women’s ministry consultant. She retired in 2017 after serving over 22 years as Women’s Ministry Specialist at LifeWay Christian Resources, Nashville, Tennessee. Chris helped pioneer women’s ministry as we know it today and compiled three women’s leadership books: Women Reaching Women: Beginning and Building a Growing Women’s Ministry, Transformed Lives: Taking Women’s Ministry to the Next Level, and Women Reaching Women in Crisis. Prior to her employment at LifeWay she was the special ministries coordinator at Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas overseeing women’s ministry and missions education. When Chris is not consulting, speaking to women, or training women’s ministry leaders, you can find her reading, with family or spending time at the beach. She married Pat in 1971 and they have twin daughters, two sons in law, 7 grandchildren, 7 bonus grands, 4 great grands, and a 7-pound blind Yorkie named Mo.

Meet Simone Monroe: Simone is an Alabama girl who lived in New Orleans and has called Texas home since her children were small. She holds a master’s in leadership and has served as Women’s Minister on church staffs, a pastors’ wife of 20 years, a leadership consultant in both the secular and church world, and a Women’s Trainer with LifeWay for more than 30 years. She is a Bible teacher, a retreat and conference speaker, and has recently released her first book, Own Your Everyday Influence with co-author Bobi Ann Allen. As the mother of 2 adult sons and their amazing spouses, her most cherished role is that of Mimi to 9 her grandchildren. She is an avid Alabama football fanatic and lover of Mexican food. You can often find her spending time at lunch with friends, reading or mentoring her friends from the International Translators Team of Love God Greatly, a non-profit ministry, via Zoom. Everything else is just Lagniappe (“a little something extra” as they say in New Orleans)!
